While Ultravox's commercial success was virtually nonexistent in the U.S., their singles were strewn across the British charts throughout the early half of the '80s. Led by Midge Ure's haunting but forceful vocal presence, sometimes reminiscent of U2's Bono, Ultravox used the keyboards to guide their sophisticated and intelligent pop style, resulting in some extremely intricate and provocative.
Ultravox, however, were one of the few exceptions, as this collection illustrates. "We Came to Dance" and "Lament" both benefited from the expanded format, but the highlight is "Dancing with Tears in My Eyes" which turns a three-minute warning of nuclear annihilation into a lifetime of memories.
Lament is the seventh studio album by British new wave band Ultravox, released on 6 April by Chrysalis Records. It was the last album featuring original drummer Warren Cann until the band's reunion album Brilliant in The album peaked at number nine on the UK Albums Chart and was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) on 8 June for shipments of , copies.
